Areas Addressed: Pioneer and contemporary photographers and History of photography, History and social context of Image- making, Operations of digital cameras and camera features, Theories of exposure and Composition, Process of exhibition and curatorial practice
The framework of the photography course was based on two different approaches. One was more connected to the skill development side and the other one was conceptualized more towards the social side of photography.
Students explored different camera features and techniques from still life photography, exploration of light and shade through indoor and outdoor photography, and they did many experiments with different camera modes, white balance, exposure settings, etc.
Later, in the time of this social distancing and isolation, we decided to connect with people through the medium of photography. Along with all safety precocious students explored people around them, initiated conversations, build connections, and tried to come out of their comfort zone captured moments from their interactions. This helped them in building confidence to handle the equipment and also equipped them with more social consciousness.
By the end of the course, students were instructed to develop a curatorial proposal for their photography exhibition. The moment they came back to campus, we executed the exhibition and shared the experience with a wider audience.
Concept board helped us to develop a holistic understanding of the journey of the learnings and interconnections of historical events by constructing timelines and events
Building connections with previous learnings were helping me to construct a holistic perspective of learnings. This discussion helped students to bridge the gaps between theory and practice.
After many presentations on pioneer and contemporary photographers and their practice of image-making students developed a larger perspective on different types of photography and its significance, ranging from documentation- nature scapes- micro - the thematic exploration of space, identity, and socio-cultural domains
